Before you switch

The questions people ask us first.

Is it the real model?

You call the same model IDs as the official APIs and get responses in the official formats. We test every model on a schedule against known answers, and we pull any route that doesn’t match.

Why is it cheaper?

We buy API capacity at wholesale rates from upstream providers and resell it with a small margin. Russet is an independent reseller. We’re not OpenAI, Anthropic or xAI, and we’re not affiliated with them.

What do I change in my code?

The base URL and the API key. Model names, request bodies, streaming and tool calls stay the same.

Which endpoints work?

OpenAI-compatible /v1/chat/completions and /v1/responses, and Anthropic-native /v1/messages. Claude Code, Codex, Cline and the official SDKs work with a base URL change.

How does billing work?

You top up a prepaid USD balance from your dashboard. Each request is billed per token at 50% of the official rate and deducted from that balance. There’s no subscription and no monthly fee.

What happens to my prompts?

We keep usage records — model, token counts, cost and time — for billing. We don’t store prompt or response content. Requests do pass through upstream providers to reach the model, so don’t send data you aren’t allowed to share with a third party.
